Some weekends are for doing; this one is for doing almost nothing, on purpose. A real relaxing weekend in Champagne is not about squeezing in sights, it is about a quiet, private place where you can finally slow down: a heated indoor pool, a hot tub, nature all around and no one to answer to. Here is what makes a short break genuinely restful, and why a private estate near Reims, 1h30 from Paris, is the easy way to switch off.
What actually makes a weekend restful
Rest is less about luxury than about absence: no crowds, no queue, no schedule, nothing you have to organise. That is where most getaways fall short. A busy hotel or a packed itinerary keeps the mind switched on. A quiet, private setting does the opposite, letting you unwind without even trying. The measure of a relaxing weekend is how little you feel you have to do.
Pool, hot tub and nature
The simplest pleasures reset us fastest. The heated indoor pool, at around 29°C and open all year, is the easiest way to let go: swim a little, float, do nothing. The hot tub takes over in the evening, perfect after a slow day. And all around, the calm of the Champagne countryside, with space to walk, read or simply sit and watch the light change. Water and nature, and very little else, is often exactly the recipe a tired week needs.
Choose the cottage that fits your stay
For a couple or a small family, L’Hirondelle accommodates up to four guests with its private hot tub. La Grange 1755 normally accommodates eight guests with its private indoor pool. Booking both cottages gives your group access to both private facilities. The outdoor pool is shared between cottages in season when they are booked separately.
Coming soon: sauna and fitness gym
A new wellness area at Domaine d’Ailleurs in Coulonges-Cohan is being renovated, with a sauna, relaxation and treatment spaces, plus a cardio and fitness gym. It is not open yet. After opening, gym access will be included for staying guests; sauna sessions will be charged separately.
The opening date, prices, time slots and access conditions will be announced when everything is ready. Until then, plan your stay around the facilities currently available with your cottage. The future spa is separate from La Grange’s indoor pool and L’Hirondelle’s hot tub.
Near Reims, easy to reach
A relaxing weekend should not start with a long journey. Le Domaine d’Ailleurs sits at Coulonges-Cohan, 1h30 from Paris, 30 minutes from Reims and 45 minutes from Epernay, deep in the countryside yet simple to reach. If you do feel like venturing out, the Champagne vineyards, cellar visits and pretty wine villages are close by. But many guests barely leave, because the pool, the hot tub and the quiet are the whole point.

What makes a good relaxing weekend?
A truly restful weekend needs a quiet, private setting, no crowds and nothing to organise. A heated indoor pool, a hot tub and nature on the doorstep let you switch off without effort. The point is space to do very little, well.
Is the pool usable all year for a relaxing break?
Yes. The indoor pool is heated to around 29°C and open all year, so a relaxing weekend works just as well in winter as in summer. Swimming and floating are among the simplest, most effective ways to unwind.
Is it suitable for a couple or for friends?
Both. Choose L’Hirondelle for up to four guests with a private hot tub, or La Grange for a group stay with a private indoor pool. For exclusive use of both cottages, book the whole Domaine. Separate cottage bookings do not include the other cottage’s private facilities.
How far is it from Paris and Reims?
Le Domaine d’Ailleurs is at Coulonges-Cohan, 1h30 from Paris, 30 minutes from Reims and 45 minutes from Epernay. Close enough for a spontaneous weekend, far enough to feel genuinely away.
What is there to do nearby if we want to venture out?
The Champagne vineyards, cellar visits and tastings, and pretty wine villages are all within easy reach. But many guests barely leave, because the pool, hot tub and quiet grounds are the whole point of a relaxing weekend.
